Thirty years of brand work, a daily drawing habit, and an essay practice on the edge of design and meaning.
A thinking partner, not a vendor.
Renato Waru is a Brazilian brand designer and art director with 30 years of experience, based in Piracaia, Brazil. He works through his studio, Navemãe Design MultimÃdia, guided by a philosophy he calls #designcomsignificado (design with meaning) and a method he calls SBC: Structure First, Beauty Always, Consistency Everywhere. His practice spans brand identity, editorial design, naming, and packaging.
Alongside the studio work, Renato keeps an ongoing personal drawing practice: charcoal, watercolor, colored pencil, and graphite portraits. None of it is tied to a client brief. It is a continuous habit, kept for its own sake.
"Design is not the lie told over the truth. It is the bridge that lets the truth be crossed by people who would otherwise turn back."
